Growth. There’s lots of talk about it.
Sessile animals, for example, sponges or coral, live their lives fixed in one place. Food comes to them. You might thing that they’ve got it made. But, in an emergency, as when their natural defenses fail them, almost none have the ability to move. It’s all over.

Life’s good and “efficient,” a common meme in healthcare. But, like a sponge, when conditions change, they can neither change with the times nor change location, at least not until it’s too late.
Extending a brand means to branch it out from one product or service line to another. Like Barbie dolls to Barbie bikes. Or, like Community Hospital to Community Hospital Medical Group.
Growth for growth’s sake isn’t a strategy. It’s just a tactic, the tactic of getting bigger.
Growing your business doesn’t always make it more profitable. If it did, General Motors would never have gone into bankruptcy.
Many hospitals have strong brands, as do many medical groups. They didn’t just happen, they were developed. Brands are a promise of known value and quality. Think Mayo Clinic versus Next Hospital Before Freeway.
