It’s time to say no to systems thinking. Healthcare systems, that is.
According to Bain & Co, nearly one-quarter of physicians employed in health-system-led organizations are considering switching employers.
Those physicians, like my clients, share the notion that serving the patient, delivering actual, not bullshit, patient-care value is the raison d’être.
Unfortunately, that’s anathema within a “healthcare system”.
It’s the difference between a “system” built to capture cross-referrals, to charge facility fees for what used to be office visits, and so on, and doing what’s best for the patient.
It’s the difference between advancing care and treatment versus being hemmed in by diktats labeled “value based care” or “evidence based medicine” or whatever other BS buzz word was just coined.
Now let’s return to the top. Did you notice that that 25% of system-employed physicians WANT NEW JOBS, not to form their own practices or groups. No cojones there, huh?
And that’s a tremendous advantage for you, someone who’s willing to take the leap into physician-owned and physician-controlled practice. After all, that 25% wants to be your worker bees. They’ll be happy. Patients will be happy. And so, too, will you.
Don’t know where to start?
Let’s chat.
P.S. Still think a system is required? Watch the classic “I, Pencil” and let me know what you think.
