Don’t Lower Your Goals Just So You Can Say You Hit Them

April 3, 2013

Imagine learning archery. After a year of lessons, you’re still missing not only the bulls eye, but the entire bale of hay on which the target is pinned.

Would you then simply decide that the entire bale of hay was the target, and award yourself a gold medal once you hit it?

Laugh if you must, but isn’t this akin to what doctors are being told every day? Lower your goals. Earn less, be happy.

Lowering your goals just to tell yourself that you’ve hit them is a crime against your potential.
